YOUR
Frequently Asked Questions
Every photographer is different, so let’s dig into the details about how I roll.
Did I miss something? Let me know! Hop on over to the Contact page.
WHAT KIND OF PHOTOS DO YOU TAKE?
I do capture a couple of “everyone look at the camera and smile!” shots, but not many. I look for moments that show connection.
I want you to look back on your photos and remember how you felt in that moment.
If your must-have shot is everyone looking at the camera and smiling, I am not your gal. And that’s okay!
My editing style features vibrant colors, golden sunshine, and I’m a sucker for a sun flare. Check out my work before booking, so we can be certain it’s a good fit.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
I provide a Wardrobe Guide for all family sessions full of tips and suggestions.
If figuring out what everyone will wear is a hard pass, I got you!
I partner with a local stylist who can put together outfits for your family. Learn more about styling services.
WHEN AND WHERE WILL WE TAKE OUR PHOTOS?
Families and seniors are outdoors from May–October. I have a long list of gorgeous spots in North Liberty, Coralville, Solon, and Iowa City.
Newborn sessions are indoors year-round.
I shoot in the 90 minutes leading up to sunset for that gorgeous flattering light. We could be shooting far past Junior’s bedtime in May, June, or July. Plan ahead to adjust naps and mealtimes to ensure nobody melts down.
In the winter, I’ll photograph your family in your home.
I adore in-home sessions; you’re comfy in your own space, giving your photos a vibe that’s unique and special to you.
WHAT'S THE TURNAROUND TIME?
In most cases, within two weeks. The max wait would be 30 days, typically during the fall busy season (September-November).
WHAT IF WE NEED TO CANCEL?
If you need to cancel for illness or unforseen circumstances, let me know as soon as possible. I’d much rather reschedule to a time when everyone is feeling their best than to power through and not get the photos you wanted.
WILL YOU PHOTOSHOP MY TEEN'S ACNE?
My teen years weren’t kind to my complexion. I have Polaroid photo evidence to prove it. #old
Acne falls into the category of things I always touch up, because it’s only temporary. When you look at your teen, you don’t see their blemishes, you see the beautiful human underneath. My goal is to ensure that’s what everyone else sees, too.

WHAT IF MY KIDS DON'T BEHAVE?
Nobody’s children are perfect, and I don’t expect yours to be, either.
Kids are unpredictable. Spouses can be, too. (Usually it’s my husband throwing a tantrum.)
Sometimes kids are just not into it. But I’ve got lots of tricks up my sleeve to catch their attention.
(When two year olds are involved, however, I keep my expectations low.)
Overlook naughtiness during your session. Smile and pretend they’re the cutest kids you’ve ever seen.
DO YOU TAKE PHOTOS INDOORS?
May through October, family sessions are held outdoors. I do not have an indoor studio space.
In the winter, and year-round for newborns, I’ll photograph you in your home.
I adore in-home sessions because they’re all about being comfy and in your own space, giving them a vibe that’s unique and special.
CAN YOU MAKE ME LOOK THINNER/ SHORTER/ TALLER/ MORE MUSCULAR?
I hand-edit every image, and happily remove blemishes, crumbs in a beard, scratched-up knees and other temporary things. Editing doesn’t include body modifications, but I’ll always guide you to stand and walk in ways that flatter your shape and highlight your best features.
HOW MANY PHOTOS ARE IN A TYPICAL GALLERY?
That depends on a lot of factors, including the length and type of session, the number of people in your party, lighting, moods, and weather.
In ideal circumstances, 60-minute sessions have galleries of 60+ images, 45-minute sessions have 45+, and full-length senior sessions have 100+.
WHAT IF IT RAINS?
The soft light of an overcast day can be more flattering than a bright sunny one. But if the wind is over 30 mph or rain chances are high, we’ll reschedule at your convenience.
CAN I BRING MY FURRY FRIEND?
Yes! Well-behaved, chill pets are always welcome. We usually do photos with and without Fido, so if your pup can’t chill in the car or next to a tree, it’s a good idea to bring a buddy who can take over doggysitting for the non-Fido part of the session.
HOW DO I BOOK A SESSION WITH YOU?
I’m so glad you asked. Fill out the contact form and I’ll get back to you in a jiffy.
