NEWBORN PHOTOS in IOWA CITY

Serving North Liberty, Iowa City, Solon, Coralville, Cedar Rapids, and Surrounding Area

Newborn photography sessions with me are relaxed, unhurried, and held in the cozy comfort of your own home.

It doesn’t matter if it’s your first or fifth baby—leaving the house with a newborn is stressful, so I come to you for photos.

Your house doesn’t need to BE WORTHY OF ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST, and it doesn’t have to be spotless.

I’ll get shots of just baby in the crib or bassinet—plus baby in your arms, snoozing on Dad’s chest, with the entire family, and baby with siblings, too. The result: LOTS of beautiful photos.

Newborn photos with me means no buckets or beanbags—just Baby and their most important people.

This is a relaxed, comfortable, and low stress photo session.

Everyone wears casual outfits; nothing fancy. All you need to do is breathe in your sweet new baby’s smell and marvel at the human you made. I’ve got you covered, Momma.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

About Newborn Sessions

I want you to feel super confident about working with me from the get-go. Here are some of the questions I’m often asked by families I work with.

Can I download my photos?

Yep! Your photos will be downloadable from your gallery as JPEG files that are yours to keep. They’re high-quality and you can do just about anything you like with them! Some folks share them online, send baby announcements, or make them into a photo book… just about anything goes. cool

Where will we have our session?

In the comfort of your home, though if it’s nice and we can go to the porch or backyard for part of your session, even better.

Do you need a house straight out of a Crate & Barrel catalog? Not at all. We can take photos anywhere with good light, and I bring along a flash just in case there’s a spot you love that’s dark. I’ll also send info ahead of time on how to prep your home for photos.

Do you do wrapped or fine art photos?

Lifestyle newborn photos are loved for their realness, so you won’t see Baby in a bucket or in any unnatural positions. Baby’s in your arms as much as they want to be, and the focus is on Baby, Mom, and the Family.

I’ll get plenty of closeups of that sweet wittle face, including shots of just Baby in the crib or bassinet, and lots of shots of Baby with his Most Important People.

Can I order prints or canvases?

Yep! Your gallery will be linked to my favorite pro print lab, with unbeatable quality. I keep print prices affordable, so they won’t break the bank, either.

My mom/dad/sister/aunt will be here, can I include them?

Absolutely! We can grab a couple of shots of them with Baby—whatever feels right to you.

When should I book my newborn photos?

The second trimester is a perfect time to book your newborn session. I recommend booking your session 3+ months before your due date.

If you’re due in the fall, you need to book sooner, since that’s the busy season for me. Get your newborn session on the books 5+ months before a due date that falls September–November.

If Baby is already here and you’re looking to book ASAP, reach out to me. I may be able to help, or refer you to another photographer who can. Get in touch.

How do I book a session?

Ooh, yay! This’ll be fun. Fill this out and I’ll get back to you quick as lightning.

“Lydia was a dream with our toddler, and got such cute shots of our two year old and newborn. We have beautiful photos we’ll treasure forever.”

Behind the scenes at a newborn photo shoot with photographer standing back to camera photographing a couple holding a newborn sitting on the floor up against the crib

Hi, bad-ass mama.

Having a baby is hard as hell. If you ask me, every postpartum mom deserves two months in bed and zero expectations. Since the world hasn’t caught up to that idea yet, I do my best to make newborn photos one less thing to worry about.

“We had a wonderful experience with Lydia. She was incredibly flexible and responsive while planning our session. She made us feel very comfortable and captured beautiful photos even with the chaos of a newborn and two large dogs. We couldn’t be happier!”
